Despite the growing attention, he remained grounded, attributing all miracles to the intercession of Saint Joseph. He often humbly remarked, "I am nothing... just a tool in the hands of Providence, a lowly instrument at the service of Saint Joseph."
In 1904, Brother André’s dream of constructing a shrine dedicated to Saint Joseph began to materialize. Despite limited resources and numerous challenges, he took the lead in building what would become Saint Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal, one of the largest churches in the world devoted to Saint Joseph. He tirelessly worked to gather funds and oversee the project, often climbing the steep hill to the construction site, despite his frail health and age.
Brother André's unshakeable faith, humility, and dedication left a lasting impact on countless lives. By the time he passed away on January 6, 1937, an estimated one million people had sought his guidance and healing. His funeral attracted an enormous crowd, underscoring the profound influence he had on the community.
Due to his sanctity and the many miracles attributed to him, Brother André was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1982 and canonized by Pope Benedict XVI on October 17, 2010, becoming Saint André Bessette.
